Meet the Gitanmaax Band
The Ksan Historical Village and Campground is proudly owned and operated by the Gitanmaax Band. It was established as a cultural centre dedicated to illustrating the richness of Gitxsan culture and history. The museum has been a part of the community for approximately five decades and has seen thousands of visitors from all over Canada and other parts of the world.
Though the community is spread out, it still has a small feel and everyone is connected in one way or another. It makes doing business here more personal. Daily interactions with fellow community members are meaningful and add richness and depth to life here.
The Ksan Historical Village and Campground feel privileged to be able to share their culture and the Gitksan people’s history with the general public. They’ve had the opportunity to meet guests from all over the world in their work and experience the satisfaction of promoting the Gitksan culture, lifestyle and arts to places far and wide.
Historical. Unique. Relaxing.
Step back in time and experience life and culture through the eyes of the Gitksan people before European settlers arrived in Canada. Ksan is a replica village of traditional longhouses and First Nations lifestyle and art. Daily tours interpret the site for visitors, giving them a sense of what life was like during this historical period. Guests can visit the on-site museum that has 600 items and artifacts that range from ceremonial to everyday items. Finally, guests can commemorate their visit with a souvenir from the gift shop.
Out of town visitors can extend their visit by staying in the on-site campground. Amenities include full service hook-ups and dry sites for tenting, as well as showers and laundry service. Campers and non-campers alike are invited to enjoy the hiking trails that surround the site.
Ksan Historical Village and Campground is a member of Aboriginal Tourism BC.
